I posted that article by Einstein yesterday and you said it looked heavy. I think the capitalist evils we are facing today are looking pretty heavy. Did you have a chance to read the article? Here it is: http://www.dangerousminds.net/comments/albert_einstein_why_socialism/ It really is worth reading.

I think you are my most right-leaning and political friend, so I am asking you, what freaks you out about it? It's philosophical foundations seem Buddhist, why would you oppose them? We have some serious problems ahead of us, and our current system is undeniably spiritually and morally bankrupt...The word socialism is so loaded. Einstein said in the piece: "Clarity about the aims and problems of socialism is of greatest significance in our age of transition. Since, under present circumstances, free and unhindered discussion of these problems has come under a powerful taboo." See, even he said it has problems, but can't we at least talk about them?

Look at the following list of current systems/services that have been nationalized, hell we're practically socialist now anyway:

The Public Library

The Interstate Highway system

FEMA

Public Health and Sanitation departments

Fire Departments

Police Departments

Public infrastructure like dams, bridges, streets, parks (local and national)

Public education (basic and higher)

I don't know, these seem like pretty good things to me.

The wealth disparity is just getting so huge that middle and lower classes are working two jobs just to scrape by and it's only getting worse. Doesn't that bum you out a little bit? Have a look at this tyranny: http://www.motherjones.com/files/images/lossgain_0.jpg
