Recipe for Cannabis Cooking Oil

I've made both infused coconut oil and infused vegetable glycerin in my small crock pot (purchased at a Goodwill - on a sale day - for under $10). For the oil I took a small piece of fine mesh material and sewed it into a pouch, leaving 1 side open. After grinding about 1/4 ounce of cannabis I put it into the pouch and sewed the pouch closed. I placed the pouch into a 1 pint canning jar and poured about 1/2 cup of melted coconut oil over the pouch. I screwed the top on very loosely and put it into the crock pot with about 2 inches of water and put the lid on the crock pot. I turned the crock pot on low and let it simmer, using a thick cloth I carefully picked up the jar and shook it every few hours. I turned off the crock pot before bed and then back on the next morning. I let it cook the next day and turned it off again before bed. On the third day I removed the jar from the crock pot and squeezed the oil out of the pouch (wearing disposable gloves) and into the jar. I then added enough plain coconut oil to the jar to bring it back to 1/2 cup of oil. I made a box mix of brownies that called for 1/4 cup oil. The brownies are very effective as a bed time snack if I eat them about an hour before bed.

Putting the oil into the jar with the lid on it helps cut down on the smell (as I am typing this I have a batch in the crock pot and my husband can not smell it). You can do this with a larger crock pot if that's all you have or you can make a bigger batch using a bigger jar in a larger pot. If you are not worried about the smell you can put the oil and the pouch into the crock pot without using the jar. The fine mesh pouch is also optional but for me it was easier to have it in the pouch than to try and strain it with cheesecloth. Another option would be a new knee high stocking, put the cannabis into it and tie it leaving an inch or so of room and then before squeezing it out fold the top half of the stocking over and squeeze out the oil.
